Meet Dr. Yaa McDonald

(PEDIATRIC DENTIST)

Dr. Yaa McDonald is a dedicated and accomplished pediatric dentist committed to providing exceptional care to her young patients. She earned her undergraduate degree in biological sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before pursuing her Doctorate in Dental Medicine at Southern Illinois University. Dr. McDonald further specialized in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where she also completed a Master of Dental Science and was honored with the Graduate Student Research Award for her work on periodontal ligament stem cells in human deciduous teeth.

As a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. McDonald is deeply involved in the professional community. She shares her expertise and serves on staff at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Tinley Woods Surgery Center, Advocate Silver Cross Hospital, Christ Hospital, and Saint Mary's Hospital.

Beyond her professional commitments, Dr. McDonald is a passionate community advocate. She recently led a mission to Uganda, South Africa. Her dedication to service was recognized in 2010 when she received the "Woman of Character Award" from Metro Achievement Center. ln her leisure time, she enjoys cooking, baking, exercising, and spending time with her family-her husband Joseph, daughter Bella.

Dr. Yaa McDonald received her undergraduate degree in the biological sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and then completed a Doctorate in Dental Medicine degree (DMD) at Southern Illinois University. Following her doctorate, she completed a two-year residency in Pediatric Dentistry, obtaining both a specialty certificate and a Master of Dental Science from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. During residency, Dr. McDonald was awarded the Graduate Student Research Award for her outstanding master’s thesis research on the periodontal ligament stem cells of human deciduous teeth.

Dr. McDonald is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She is adjunct faculty at Marquette University School of Dentistry, where she teaches pediatric dentistry to undergraduate dental students. She is on staff at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Tinley Woods Surgery Center.

Dr. McDonald is a community advocate and enjoys volunteering. She has participated in activities such as Convoy of Hope, Jamaican Dental Missions, and in other local organizations. In 2010 was honored by Metro Achievement Center with the “Woman of Character Award.”

In her spare time, she enjoys trying new recipes, baking, exercising, hanging with her husband, Joseph, her little girl Bella, and her dog Sophie. Dr. McDonald looks forward to giving your child a great dental experience!
